If anyone is not still not aware of it, there is an online toy store called “Dave’s Cool Toys” It specializes in unusual toys, toys that are hard to find and not licensed (not just a crappy piece of plastic with a movie logo on the package).

Since “Dave” is a friend of mine and I make videos, I decide to “bang out” a commercial-like video for his site. You can see it below or click through this link to see the online toy store video.

I was just sitting and doodling and messing around with a pencil. And I decided to try one more like a comic pencil and less shady. (In other words not using greys. and after Got tired of it I decided I may as well snap a photo of it with my nice new iPod touch and throw it here.

This is the first published sketch of the new bunny character from the short “film” titled “Public Service Announcement”.

You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. You’ll shit your pants.  And if you haven’t got any pants, borrow a friend’s and shit theirs.

It should run about 2 minutes and I will be updating the info here as it evolves.  The finished short will be CG based character animation.

Imagine my horror and/or fascination when I came across this startling image on the web.  It is real.  Look at the human in the center for scale.  This wondrous image was taken in a large chamber in a cave in Viet Nam.

It is one of many wonderful images from these cave(s).  The image and caption are unmodified.

Howdy and welcome to the post.  I have done another quick sketch that I decided to share.

This nude torso was done in graphite using a Dixon #2 pencil ( a real cheap pencil) on printer paper.  This one uses a more abstract framing than I usually use for a study.  It was mostly a rendering experiment.  As such I chose a subject with broad areas of subtle contour, and very few boundaries.

I think it shows promise and I intend to explore this style a bit further.  I used very light blending with my finger, but no stumps.  It kind of straddles the line between a drawing and a rendering.

PS-The theme for this blog was created by me.  It can’t be found anywhere for any price. But you may notice it’s resemblance to the old “Kubrick” theme.  There is a reason for that; I deliberately designed this one to look like that one, but with features that the original does not have.

An interesting thing sort of happened recently.  I was moseying around the old hard drive when I discovered a sort of back-up of the original Bunny. A much earlier post had the sordid tale of how (and why) the Bunny was moved rather abruptly and all the cool shit was lost.  Or so I thought.

There used to be animations and art and lessons (art and animation) here.  Well the point is I found a copy of everything but I am not sure if I can get it to be here.  I will let you know either way.

In the mean time I like to draw (duh) and every now and then when I am “doodling” I like the result.  It is not a finished work so I can’t put it in my portfolio, but I feel a desire to share it.  Too often you never see an artist’s unfinished works or studies, and this is a detriment to folks trying to learn.  If you never see anything but finished pieces you my think that everything you do should look finished all the time.  Thinking that way prevents you from understanding that art is a process of exploration, not a calculated application of rote formulas.

In any case today’s sketch is just a nude. Hope you like it.  Don’t be afraid to leave a comment.

PS-I didn’t sign it because I don’t usually sign unfinished work.  After I pull it out of the scanner I shall do more with it.  If that is interesting I may post a second version. (don’t count on it)

Fuck Flash In The Fucking Neck With Barbed Wire Coated In Arsenic

While at oppugn.us I reject any threats of violence to humans, I am all about threats of violence to evil, shit filled, bug ridden, antiquated, horribly maintained piles of dog shit technology like Flash.

Just in case it’s not clear, I absolutely positively hope that Flash is totally wiped out and that it takes all of Adobe and their bosom buddy Microsoft with it down into the dark depths of Cthulhu’s anus where things that die are dead for so long that even death is now dead and they are out of my fucking site.

Why? Because for the very last time, I am finally sick of Hulu playing video like it’s a covered in molasses. Of course my more technically oriented friends will think that makes me a moron. It works great for them on their Neckbeard 9000 Triple Quad Dual X Neon Nvidia NIOPIATE computer with SSDs in RAID-26 configuration.

Nope, this is on a Mac, or Linux, or Windows and on some reasonable hardware. 1.6GHZ CPU with a decent Nvidia card designed to show HD video. In fact, I can play perfect video from Netflix on both my Mac and my Windows PC with no problems. Just watched “Up” and it looked fantastic from Netflix.

I flip on Hulu and I want to stab my computers. At the lowest quality settings possible it still has lag and bullshit rendering. But you wanna know the most irritating part? Do you?!

That shit worked perfectly under Flash 9. That’s right. Adobe actually released a completely obvious regression in their video playback that fucked over services like Hulu that play at full screen, and meanwhile Microsoft’s solutions in Silverlight are just great. Oh, I’m sure that’s not intentional because Adobe has never pulled shit like thatØŸ

By the way, this ØŸ is the sarcasm character.

This was the last straw, and it got me thinking about all the bullshit horrible ways Macromedia and then Adobe has worked to screw over the internet like a cheap dollar whore at Donkey’s Puncher Strip Club on Van Ness.

First, do you realize that every internet API has to include an ability to return the status code from HTTP requests in the damn response (rather than the headers) because Flash has the only HTTP client which can’t process them correctly? That’s right, for close to a decade Flash has had such a broken client that the entire web must be effectively restructured to keep it happy. Do they care? Of course they fucking don’t. They’re everywhere and you’ll fucking put up with it.

This has made every API I’ve designed turn from a great little service into a horrible eyesore of “statusinresponse” codes because one company can’t be bothered to actually follow a standard that pays their fucking bills. Screw them for just that alone.

But, it gets better. Do you know about Flash LSO Cookies? Oh, you’re in for an awesome treat my naive friend! According to Wikipedia an LSO is a Flash cookie that’s like a browser cookie, except you have absolutely no fucking control over it and no way to see what they are unless you go to a website that adobe runs so they can see your cookies before letting you remove them.

Yes, to remove the cookies on your computer you go to a website and give that website access to your cookies. That’s batshit crazy stupid since browser kiss Flash’s ass left and right, with insane features to support it, but can’t be bothered to give me control over Flash’s cookies? Who the fuck did they blow at Mozilla to make that happen?

These LSOs are a massive privacy and security hole, with virtually no controls on them and used by every company to get around browser cookie restrictions and your ability to hide them. Not only that, but Adobe went out of its way to make it a pain in the fucking ass to get rid of them, hiding the site and making it hard to use. Well, they probably just are too stupid to make anything actually easy to use based on how size of the skyscraper of XML that powers Flex.

Here we have this component that’s on everyone’s computer if they have a browser. It’s required to see pretty much any video, so yes, if you watch porn you use it, which means you use it a lot. Then this video sucks ass and can’t be full screen on any hardware except the shit NASA uses to simulate the universe’s rotation. Finally, it’s chock full of these LSO cookies that nobody has control over.

You following me so far? Broken HTTP client. Shitty video. Huge security problems. Nasty performance. Get this, I’m not even close to done.

Let’s say you want to code some shit for this bug ridden platform, because, well, it’s fucking awesome if you serve ads to track dupes on the internet. Great. Well bust out your fucking checkbook because that shit is expensive. You’ll be paying for tools after tools and books and then Adobe will just shit on you like they did the Hulu developers by releasing a version that breaks everything.

What about how you deploy these things? Ever wonder why people create Javascript libraries to wrap embedding Flash? Because it’s a total clusterfuck. I don’t even remember the syntax and I used to have to code that shit daily. It’s so retarded and obtuse it makes no sense and smacks of Microsoft’s way of doing things it makes me barf when I touch it. After decades the best we can do is a javascript wrapper. Jesus fucking H. Christ that’s lame.

Next, let’s talk about Adobe, Macromedia, and Microsoft. How fucking idiotic and evil can you be if you actively decide to exclude other platforms because your buddy tells you it’s good for them? Remember when Adobe basically told Apple to fuck off? Remember when Linux users had to hack in DLLs from windows in weirdo hacks to get Flash? Do you remember this? Because I sure fucking remember Adobe telling me to go fuck myself. Straight to my face. Shit they probably would have kicked me in the nuts and bitch slapped me if they were within 2′ of me just to make it really fucking clear I’m not their customer.

Why’d they do this? Well that was back when Microsoft was trying to squeeze out everyone on the internet and force people to use Internet Explorer and by extension only Windows. One key to that strategy is to lock down the only viable option for shitty ads and video by convincing Adobe…ah who are we kidding, there was no convincing. Microsoft asked the same way The Emperor “asked” Darth Vader to join the dark side with some hot bitches, threatening his kids, and then probably some blue lightning and shit.

Look, I could drag this on, but Adobe fucked themselves over. They actively spent years shitting on everyone at Apple and every Linux user thinking that Microsoft’s bad taste would prevail for very long. When that didn’t happen rather than come clean and start being nice they continued to fuck everyone over with horrible features, regressions in current features, and poor security.

Basically, now is our time for revenge. Adobe has screwed web developers for way too long now and deserves this revenge. We should be actively trying to wipe them out. Fuck them. Fuck their platform. Their entire platform represents everything that sucks about the internet. It represent clunky crappy technology that’s poorly integrated and barely working with no hope of maintenance.

We should be rejoicing at their death because they represent the old internet. The closed fucked up internet that ate people’s productivity and innovation to prop up antiquated business models at the expense of real end users and developers.

I personally will never support Flash’s broke ass HTTP client in future APIs. At every step if I find a way to take them out I will. I’m going to start actively asking developers of Firefox and Chrome why fuck they allow LSOs at all! LSOs are Microsoftian evil bullshit and the fact that Firefox even allows them makes me want to puke in their fucking face.

Actually, I’ll give Firefox and Chrome a hand here and say I want BetterPrivacy to be a default browser feature. This plugin is how you should let me manage my cookies. Not whatever weird ass shit you’re doing to keep Adobe in business.

I did not put up the rest of the page this was on. This is about double the size of the original.

No adjustments were made to the scan other than cropping. (and desaturating it. For some reason graphite always looks purple on my scanner.)
